Concepts.

Axometric Sketches of six of these concepts

- Two separate entities coming together by interlocking

- Embracing of corners

- Use of monolithic scale

- Idea of seamlessness, articulating continuous movement

- Parts in the whole complexity of a structure, crated through repeated shapes and geometries

- Homogenous materials carved out to created spaces in a solid

We started off exploring the works of Carlo Scarpa and Alvaro Siza. From their works we summarised a total of twelve concepts these architects were concerned about

Scarpa
  • Use of light as a navigating tool
  • Parts in the whole complexity of a structure created through repeated shapes and geometries
  • Two separate entities coming together by interlocking
  • Embracing of corners
  • Embracing materiality through contrast
Siza
  • Ideas of seamlessness, articulating continuous movement
  • Shadows as an ornament
  • Homogenous materials carved out to create spaces in a solid
  • Clear delineation between inside and outside
  • Use of monolithic Scale (POWER)
  • Form follows function (BAUHAUS)

From that I combined Scarpa's idea of interlocking two separate entities, and Siza's monolithic ideas.

My Sketch Up Model

This was my original axonometric for the concept "Two separate entities coming together by interlocking" . After week 1 and modelling it on lumion, i was unhappy with how it looked aesthetically. Thus I redrew a new one which is the axonometric you see above with the others.
